A small amount of hair loss is normal during the first several shaves. Sometimes, you may even see a few hairs falling out for the first few months while the brush is being "broken-in".
The hairs falling out are the "shorter hairs" which were not completely removed by the manufacturer when the hair knot was attached to the handle. These hairs are not securely fixed to the base and fall out during use. They are not part of the "hair bundle" or "knot".
Often, one to five hairs (usually into your shaving cream, soap or bowl) will fall out during the first few months. Don't be worried. Your shaving brush contains thousands of brush hairs and the small number you are losing during the first few months will not affect the performance.
If you feel the hair knot coming loose from the handle, or whole clumps of hair are coming out, then you should probably have a defective brush and will need to replace it.
Be careful not to use water that is too hot when preparing your brush for a shave. If it's scalding hot, the hair bristles may weaken and break and most importantly, the glue holding the brush knot to the base may weaken allowing hairs to fall out. |
