- Chocolate or sugar causes acne.
WRONG! There is no evidence for this commonly cited cause. You may gain weight but you won’t get acne from eating chocolate or sugar.
- Dry skin causes fine lines and wrinkles.
WRONG! Wrinkles are almost entirely caused by exposure to the sun.
- After shaving, you should use "manly" products that cause your face to sting.
WRONG! A stinging sensation from a product means it is irritating your skin and probably making it look worse. Don’t use any product that causes your skin to sting or tingle. If you have to brace yourself when you put a lotion or cream on your face after shaving because it hurts so much, you’re damaging your skin and making it look older.
- If you wash your face a lot, it will dry it out and not look so oily.
WRONG! Washing and scrubbing your face just causes your skin glands to produce even more oil (sebum) to counter the overly drying effects of all that washing you keep doing. The unexpected result from too much washing and scrubbing is oily skin.
- Moisturizers remove wrinkles.
WRONG! Moisturizers will minimize the appearance of a wrinkle by plumping up your skin by reducing skin dehydration. The wrinkle is still there but is not as noticeable for several hours.
