Brown spots, age spots and liver spots are all basically the same. They are small brown areas or patches that appear as we age on the back of our hands, arms and face. The cause for all of these conditions is too much sun exposure.
To help prevent additional spots from appearing on your skin, try to avoid sun exposure and be sure to use a sunscreen whenever you are outside. Also, be sure to cover all the existing spots with sunscreen to help prevent them from getting darker.
Some organic, natural ingredients that may help dark spots included Kojic Acid, Licorice Extract, AHA's (Glycolic and Lactic Acids), and Vitamin C. Try products with these safe ingredients for a couple of months to see if that helps to lighten the spots. Some skin lightening products use an ingredient called Hydroquinone but new research indicates that Hydroquinone may not be safe so these products should be avoided unless under the supervision of a dermatologist
If you don't see any improvement, visit a dermatologist who now have an arsenal of remedies including peels, strong acting creams, and lasers to lighten or eliminate the spots. |
