The knot size of a badger brush measures the diameter of the badger hair bundle that goes into the handle. Knot sizes typically range in size from 19mm to 20mm (small), 21mm to 22mm (medium), 23mm to 24mm (large), and 25+mm (extra large). The larger the knot size, the more hairs are included and the longer the length of the hairs. Larger sizes are more expensive.
The most popular sizes are the Medium or Large sizes. Using a larger shaving brush won't increase your speed of shaving since the facial area is so small - it doesn't matter whether you use a small or extra large. It's just a personal preference of how the handle feels in your hand and the size of the brush against your face. Even if you are particularly large, a medium size brush will be fine.
