What's the difference between an Aftershave, Aftershave Balm, Aftershave Lotion, Aftershave Splash, & a Skin Food?
Aftershave Balm/Cream/Lotion/Skin Food
These are used after a shave to moisturize and smooth your skin. Many aftershave balms and lotions contain nourishing ingredients, anti-oxidants and botanicals that soothe your skin. Common ingredients used include witch hazel, herbal oils, aloe or allantoin.
After taking a layer of skin off your face, it definitely looks better, healthier and younger when you apply a non-drying, non-alcoholic aftershave balm, cream or lotion. All of these variations are usually refreshing and available in a wide variety of subtle scents.
Aftershave or Aftershave Splash
These contain alcohol and often cause a stinging sensation when applied after shaving. Men were taught for decades that this was a "good
feeling" but the reality is that the alcohol is very drying and can cause your skin to look older and dryer. Aftershave scents often smell great (remember your father or
grandfather) but unfortunately they can damage your skin. If you have dry or sensitive skin, definitely avoid alcohol based aftershaves. We recommend using an aftershave
balm or skin food to soothe your face after shaving. |
